Accra Psychiatric Hospital Children's Ward benefits from ADK Gifts of Hope Project

Aug. 9, 2018

OUR 2ND VISIT TO THE CHILDREN'S WARD - ACCRA PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL

In line with ADK's corporate social responsibility dubbed "The ADK Gifts of Hope Project", ADK Consortium represented by Mr. Nicholas De Heer, ADK Brands Consultant, Mrs. Frimpomaa Ayim & Ms. Marklina Dadzie donated sanitary and food items to the Children's Ward at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.  This formed part of efforts to meet the needs of the mental healthcare sector in Ghana.

The ADK team were met on arrival by Ms. Makafui Agbeko, Head of the Children's Ward who received the donation on their behalf.

Items presented included cartons of adult diapers, key soap, hand sanitizers, hand gloves, disinfectants, toilet rolls, biscuits, fruit drinks, indomie, play mats and bail of used clothes.

Mr. Nicholas De Heer commended the staff of the Ward for their love, dedication and commitment towards the care of the children. He stated that mental health is a neglected area in health care in Ghana and the magnitude of mental health problems in children and adolescents has not been recognized sufficiently by many Governments and decision-makers. He added that advocacy for child and adolescent mental health should not be the sole domain of mental health professionals or those impacted by mental disorders and their families; everyone must get involved in the fight against mental health.

The ADK Team also used the occasion to call for stronger partnerships between public and private sectors in helping to address some of the problems confronting mental health.

The donation was followed by interactions and lengthy discussions with the staff to update the ADK team on the progress and challenges of the Ward following their last visit in 2016.

Ms. Makafui expressed appreciation for the continuous support rendered by ADK Consortium to the Children's Ward and thanked the team especially for the encouragement and support over the years.
